The material is SO soft, they are machine washable, there are two ways to hang them- either with the loops, and by putting the rod all the way through. The material also is the same on both sides, the blackouts I had before were white on the side facing out. These are definetly worth it, if only for the fact that you can wash them yourself. Also, they seem to work VERY well. My kid's room already has a temperature change, also they keep the room as dark as hoped. A+
